Pathogen Portfolios (Microbiology [BIOL 150])

You will be creating a portfolio throughout the semester that will include select pathogenic microorganisms. The purpose of the Pathogen Portfolio is to assist your learning by providing a place where you can consolidate information related to the various pathogenic microorganisms studied in this course. To gather this information, you may use your textbook, online resources, library resources, etc. You may discuss your pathogens with your classmates, but each write-up must be your own interpretation and analysis. Where appropriate, include drawings, diagrams, pictures, etc. to supplement and clarify your pathogen information. Be sure to include references, using the “number” method demonstrated in the sample journal article available on Desire2Learn.

The purpose of this portfolio is to aid your learning, so do not hesitate to be creative. Although your portfolio does not have to be typed, please make sure it is legible. Points will be deducted for sloppy mechanics; please use complete sentences, and proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, and handwriting. A sloppy product does not show well, and cannot earn the grade that you desire.

Due dates for your portfolio will follow the tentative schedule outlined below.

Pathogen Portfolio Schedule:

Entries 1 & 2 - May 15, 2008
Entries 3 & 4 - May 22, 2008
Entries 5 & 6 - May 28, 2008
Entries 7 & 8 - June 5, 2008
Entries 9 & 10 - June 12, 2008
Completed Portfolio - June 16, 2008
