Teaching Evaluation

In this section of my teaching portfolio, I have included artifacts that demonstrate assessment of my teaching. Assessment of a teacher by students and peers is a crucial aspect of professional growth and development. This assessment allows the teacher a glimpse of themselves through the eyes of others, and can often point out areas for improvement that were missed by the teacher. This segment of my teaching portfolio is organized around the National Science Education Standard C (http://www.nap.edu/html/nses/3.html):

Teaching Standard C: Teachers of science engage in ongoing assessment of their teaching and of student learning.

Similar to evaluation of student learning, assessment of the teacher should be systematic and should utilize different data collection methods. Most commonly, evaluation of a teacher may include student evaluations, and informal or formal interactions with colleagues. The results of these assessments should be used to guide changes in teaching.

My improvement plan and professional goals includes changes that I wish to make to my teaching based on my reading list and my participation in professional meetings. The improvement plan and professional goals reflect a self-evaluation of my teaching.
